Nestled in the heart of Raleigh, Crawford and Son delivers an exceptional American dining experience that artfully blends innovation with comfort. This restaurant has earned its place as a culinary gem, celebrated for its thoughtfully curated menu and intimate ambiance that feels both cozy and refined—perfect for date nights or special celebrations.
The cuisine here is an exquisite journey through rich, bold flavors and delicate textures. From the first bite, you’re drawn into a world where classic American ingredients meet unexpected, gourmet twists. Popular dishes like the Yellowtail Crudo, with its bright miso, lemon, and fermented pepper notes, epitomize freshness and balance, while the Bone Marrow Beef Tartare offers a decadent, velvety richness that’s as indulgent as it is captivating.
Among standout selections, diners rave about the Duck Breast, perfectly seared to maintain its tenderness, and the Hanger Steak which arrives paired with truffle cream-infused corn—a luscious accompaniment that critics and customers alike say could steal the spotlight. The Eggplant surprises with its irresistibly crispy texture, defying the usual sogginess and offering a delightful contrast to the other hearty plates.
Appetizers such as the Scallop Carpaccio — refreshingly tangy with prosciutto, green olives, hazelnut, and parsley — awaken the palate, while the Yellowfin Tuna Crudo and Charred Octopus deliver bursts of umami and smoky undertones that elevate the dining experience. Not to be overlooked, the Warm Malted Wheat Rolls and Manchego Herb Biscuits provide a comforting, flaky element that perfectly rounds out the meal.
Complement your feast with a vibrant cocktail from their creative list—each priced around $14—with highlights such as the Charmander Gin cocktail, boasting smoky strawberry and subtle lemon verbena, or the Crawford Cup, a lively blend of cachaça, pimms, hibiscus, and ginger. For beer enthusiasts, the selections like Burial's Dryhopped Pilsner and Flying Machine's IPA provide refreshing, crisp options.
The dining atmosphere at Crawford and Son strikes a balance between relaxed charm and elegant intimacy, creating a welcoming space where every detail underscores the culinary artistry. As noted by diners, the ambiance lends itself perfectly to celebrations and memorable evenings.
Customers consistently praise the restaurant’s attentiveness and the chef’s inventive approach. Rae, a repeat guest, expressed delight over the perfectly paired steak and truffle corn—the kind of dish that lingers in your memory. Val E highlighted the “chef’s kiss” moment when enjoying the Yellowtail Crudo with its irresistible rice cake, demonstrating the thoughtful textural play featured throughout the menu. Josean found the service attentive and felt each course, especially the octopus and duck, was carefully crafted to shine.
While the menu is compact, it offers depth and sophistication that satisfy varied palates. A few guests noted the pricing is on the higher side, but the consensus points to a genuinely exceptional dining journey that justifies every penny. Desserts, such as the rich brownie mentioned by Josean, provide a perfect sweet finale to a thoughtfully paced meal.
In essence, Crawford and Son isn’t just a meal—it’s an immersive experience that leaves you eager to return, savoring every inventive bite and the warm, inviting sense of occasion the restaurant perfectly embodies.
This was our second time here and both times have been 10/10! We got the duck, steak, eggplant, and trout. The steak was paired with a truffle cream type corn that may have been my favorite thing on the table. The eggplant was super crispy and not soggy at all. The trout was light but the sauce it was paired with was the star of the show. They were all absolutely delicious but we all agreed the trout was our favorite. The brownie sundae had an incredible honey peanut butter whip and was so dense and gooey I wanted five. The portions here are perfect that you can enjoy an app, dinner, and dessert and not feel like you need to be rolled out. It was my dad’s birthday and they did a candle for him in the cheesecake. Both my parents said this was a top five meal ever for them!
I can see why this restaurant was on the Michelin Guide for Raleigh. The ambiance when you walk in, is so cozy. However, the food was AMAZING. All the flavors were there. The yellowtail crudo had to be my favorite dish. The rice cake they put on top is to die for, and dipping it in the yellowtail was chefs kiss. The catfish was their special and it was perfectly lightly battered and fried! Cocktails were unique and held lots of flavor. Definitely ask the waitress or waiter about the speakeasy, you’ll need a key to go! The service was 10/10, a great date night
I made a reservation for a special occasion, being my first time I did not know what to expect. The menu is small, but with options for everyone. The food was delicious, the highlights of the night were the octopus and the duck but the rest was still very good. The desserts were well balanced, my favorite was the brownie but would recommend all of them. The service was great, from the recommendations to the attention. I always had water in my cup and always checking in. The only thing that surprised me was that other than saying congrats before sitting us down there was nothing else to make the day "extra special" but the food and the service made up for it.
Came to celebrate a Girl Friend's birthday. First time here and it was delicious. My drink the TKO had gin, watermelon, campari and coconut. It was so smooth and delicious...quite possibly dangerous after a few. My favorite drink now. We had a Pork Belly Special, Bone Marrow Tartare and Blue Crab Ditalini to start. All were beautifully and cleanly presented. Biscuits were a good salty and flaky. For entrees, had the Duck Breast, Sea Trout and Denver Steak, all were properly seasoned and cooked. We had all desserts except the sorbet. We were full but had to try them all and they did not disappoint either. Our server did a great job. Super friendly and wished my friend a Happy Birthday. Checking my calendar now to see when I can bring my husband. Can't wait. Also loved Brodeto!!
The atmosphere is beautiful and perfect for date night. We enjoyed our time here and the food was a feast for the eyes. It was our first time eating beef tartar and it was delicious but a little too salty. They are pricey !
They seated me next to a party of approximately 20 people, and they were unbelievably loud. They were screaming like they were the only table in the entire restaurant. It completely set the tone in the wrong way when all we wanted was a nice, peaceful dinner. It gave me a headache, and I didn’t enjoy my meal at all. I wish management had been more attentive and said something to the obnoxious, screaming group—something as simple as, “Hey, there are other tables around you. Please be mindful so everyone can enjoy their dinner.” Instead, nothing was done until I finally went to the manager myself, and only then did they move me. Everyone else in the restaurant was having a great time, yet no one else was yelling. What is wrong with these people? I did not expect to pay $460 for dinner in such a terrible environment. Management needs to be more proactive and address situations like this—or at the very least give a heads-up like, “We only have a table next to a large party. Are you okay with that?” I didn’t get that courtesy at all.
I would say this experience was probably closer to a 3.5. Atmosphere, service all of that was good. We went as a party of 3. We got 3 appetizers, the risotto, the rendang and the buttermilk fried quail. All 3 of the appetizers were excellent with the group split between the rendang and the quail for best dish. We got the duck, short rib, cod for entrees. All 3 of these dishes were very lackluster. The duck while cooked well lacked flavor and the sauces on the plate didnt have much flavor. The cabbage was ok. I was told the cod was only cooked ok and that the sweet potato was the best part of the dish. I dont know what to say about the short rib other than its one of my favorite cuts of meat and I didnt even finish the one here. Also the broccoli rabe had so much smoke it tasted burnt. Borderline inedible. 270 dollars, you only make 4 entrees so I expected them to be amazing.
We dined here a couple of days ago and had a exceptional dining experience. The food was amazing, the bone marrow beef tartare and the short rib are must-tries. Highly recommend!!
